Bozal Mezcal
Bozal Mezcal is a premium artisanal mezcal crafted in Oaxaca, Guerrero, and Durango using wild agave that grows on steep, uncultivated terrain. The brand’s philosophy centers on being “wildly refined,” honouring both the untamed nature of wild agave and the ancestral methods of family-operated mezcaleros. Sustainability is core to its identity, with two agaves replanted for every one harvested. The name bozal—meaning “wild” or “untamed”—reflects both the rugged landscapes where the agaves grow and the traditional, smallbatch distillation practices preserved across generations.
Production follows deeply traditional techniques: slowroasting agave piñas in underground pit ovens, crushing them with a horsedrawn tahona, fermenting with natural airborne yeast, and distilling in copper or clay pot stills depending on the expression. Bozal’s portfolio spans four lines: Single Maguey bottlings that showcase individual wild agave varieties; Ensamble blends that layer multiple agaves for complexity; Sacrificio expressions incorporating celebratory protein elements like Pechuga or Borrego; and Reserva releases distilled in clay pots to highlight terroir and ancestral craftsmanship.
